Pre-Cutting Instructions for
Smooth Jazz Class

So sorry for the late e-mail! I sent out an e-mail July 19th, but it looks like no one got it.
So, here it is again.
We will begin class at 10:00 a.m. You can stay as long as you like, as long as you understand how to make the blocks. We will focus on making two blocks, but you may have time for more.
Here is the supply list:
Basic Sewing Supplies-
Sewing machine with power cord
Thread
Machine needles
Snips or trimming scissors
Seam ripper
Basic Quilting Supplies-
Rotary Cutter
Marking Pencil (Mechanical will do)
Small cutting mat
Straight edge ruler approx. 6" x 12" or so
Invisigrip (I have some available here at QJ)
Fabric Requirements-
Here are the fabric requirements for the different sizes available in the pattern (You may choose any size).
Lap Size: Dark - 10 Fat Quarters
Background(s) - 4 1/4 yards total
Inner Border - 1/4 yard
Middle Border - 1/2 yard
Outer Border - 1 3/8 yard
Binding - 5/8 yard
Backing - 4 3/4 yards
Twin Size: Dark - 14 Fat Quarters
Background(s) - 6 1/4 yards total
Inner Border - 3/8 yard
Middle Border - 1/2 yard
Outer Border - 1 1/2 yards
Binding - 3/4 yard
Backing - 6 yards
Queen Size: Dark - 21 Fat Quarters
Background(s) - 8 3/4 yards total
Inner Border - 3/8 yard
Middle Border - 5/8 yard
Outer Border - 1 7/8 yards
Binding - 7/8 yard
Backing 8 1/2 yards
I have included all the fabric requirements so you can shop for the complete quilt. The Pattern allows you to use two (2) background fabrics. I used one (1) dark background and bright fat quarters. The quilt I made is Queen size.
If you want to cut all of your fat quarters and background for the blocks before class, you may do so. If you just want to cut one (1) Fat Quarter, that will be fine, too. All the Fat Quarters are cut the same.
From each Fat Quarter - Bands - Cut 9 Strips 1 1/2" x hwof (half width of fabric)
Background - Squares - Cut 20 Strips 4 3/4" x wof (width of fabric); sub-cut into 160 squares 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" (you will need at least 16 squares for class)
Diamonds - Cut 15 strips 2 1/2" x wof (you will need at least 2 strips for class)
The other fabric can be cut later. We will be making at least two (2) blocks in class.
